Attended meeting last night
by sd-7 ini was almost as worried as if i was giving a talk instead of my wife last night.
i parked and they went in well before me.
i gathered my thoughts and realized that it was only proper that way.

Do you miss "dressing up" for the meetings?
by dozy ini was thinking about this the other day when doing a bit of tidying up of my wardrobe.
all the kh suits are now pushed to the back of the wardrobe and i am seriously thinking about a visit to the charity shop to get rid of most of them.. for me one of the (few) enjoyable aspects of being a jw was getting dressed up.
my secular work very rarely involves putting on a dress suit & tie so i miss getting dressed up - smart suit , tie , shiny shoes , slapping on the aftershave.

yes, I really enjoyed the whole "getting dressed up" routine. Esp. when I had a meeting part.

JW MIL having surgery - Elders there are the "blood nazis"
by Robert7 inso my jw mother-in-law is having some rather major abdominal surgery today.
given the type of surgery, there is a chance that the blood issue may come up, where in worst case if there's a loss of blood she may need a transfusion.. so in the waiting room for the entire 3 1/2 hour surgery are two elders.
these guys don't know my mil that well, and they are not there to support her... when it comes down to it:.

Has your wife spoken to these guys informing them who she is, and why are they sitting there, who called them in the first place ?
Perhaps if the elders realize that your MIL has other family members at the hospital who do not approve of their teachings, and are ready to stand up for the long term health of your MIL they might just buckle under the pressure and lay low, leave or heaven forbid call in reinforcements.
Good luck today, and I hope that things work out well for you, your wife, and MIL.

Can You "Read" People?
by minimus inmisery wrote on a thread how those of us who were born into the jw religion were taught how to read people.
we learn how to look for their weaknesses, their joys, what seems to be troubling them, what their yard looks like, etc.. do you have this ability, in all honesty?
i am told that i have that ability and it freaks people out sometimes (in a good way).

as a jw I tended to evaluate persons from a mainly negative aspect.
( They watch R rated movies, and miss meetings ???? Well then, they are scum )
But since leaving I have developed a much more level headed view of people, sure there are many nutjobs out there, but I give everyone a chance first, then make up my mind as to who I think they are.

Did you like the Society's calendars?
by JimmyPage ini always thought they were the most boring things i'd ever seen.
a picture of someone preaching in a different land every month.. i always ended up hanging something far more entertaining, like an nfl calendar..

Has the wtbts threatened this site?
by man in black ini have read postings once in a while talking about how the jw org.
told this site to take certain posts, or files down otherwise they would press charges.
have they really done this, or is what i read just a rumor ?.

How much positive reinforcement do you need to function on JWD?
by TMS insuffice to say most of us appreciate favorable comments when we initiate a thread.
even in our jw days, after an assembly part, student talk, public talk etc.
the kind words of our brothers and sisters contributed to our self-esteem.

I come here for several reasons,
1),to read about other persons experiences as witnesses, and to see how they handled it.
2) , I have to deal with witnesses once in a while (I am a da'd person) and asking questions regarding my situations has been helpful. Many people here have offered some great advice as to how I could proceed.
3), Reflecting on past experiences as a witness,, I know several people on this board and looking back on situations/people/places is a way to have some retro-fun because of growing up a jw.
4), keeping up on the strange-new beliefs that the jw org. spews out. I learned so much regarding the "new generation" here that I was locked and loaded when this subject was thrown at me from some witnesses one day. The new elders book is another situation that comes to mind.
****, Just a side point, I think that all this fighting just encourages the lurking jw 's here to believe that people who leave the org. are miserable.
It is not helping at all.

Does God Create Evil?
by rvalich inthe view held by christian theology is that god did not create evil.
you may argue this point using scripture to support either side.
however that argument is but a symptom of a much larger problem which is choice and free will.. the concept among christians is that sin, suffering, and evil deeds began with the original sin.
